Amazon rainforest burning at record rates

Wildfires are raging in the Amazon rainforest at record rates, which environmental groups attribute to increased deforestation under Brazil’s president, Jair Bolsonaro. The ongoing destruction of “the planet’s lungs” threatens our ability to mitigate the worst effects of global warming.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin announced that the new 20 dollar bill featuring abolitionist Harriet Tubman would be delayed until 2028. The decision rolls back on an Obama administration plan to replace imagery of President Andrew Jackson with that of the underground railroad hero. Former senior advisor to Obama reacts to the legitimacy of Secretary Mnuchin delaying the redesign over “counterfeiting issues".

Lawsuit battles Trump Admin. Citizenship ruling on LGBT Families

A State Department policy enacted in the summer of 2018 is blocking LGBT parents from passing citizenship onto their children born abroad. Requiring DNA testing to prove a biological relationship to their children, the policy effectively de-recognizing their right as married couples. The Dvash-Banks family is fighting back against the policy in court that currently only allows citizenship for one of their twin boys.
